So as many of you know my hubby is gluten-free,
which means I am mostly GF as well.
I've been trying for years to bake and cook well while accommodating his allergy,
adjusting recipes so that they are gluten free and sometimes my recipes are a total flop...
This one, on the other hand, is a total hit!
It's super simple to throw together and the flavor is perfect for a cool fall day!
I promise anyone (even the gluten eating population) will love this tasty treat.
Gluten-Free Apple Betty
Ingredients:
4 cups thinly sliced apples
1/4 cup orange juice
3/4 cup GF all-purpose flour
(I recommend Domata or Bisquick)
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/3 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tiny pinch salt
1/2 cup butter
You will want to bake this at 375 degrees (F).
Be sure to spray your pan or line it with a thin coat of butter.
You will then begin slicing the apples,
I found that smaller thinner slices seem to work better for the dishes overall texture.
Pile the apples into the pan and pour orange juice over the top.
Place to side.
In a bowl, mix the GF flour, the sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
Use warm or room temperature butter and begin to cut it into mixture,
the mixture should be slightly crumbly, but crust like.
Be sure to "cut" and not stir in butter, it makes a difference in the texture.
Cover the apples with the mixture.
Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve fairly warm with Ice cream on top.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy!
This looks really good! Mmmmm! Gotta make this!

ReplyDeleteThis apple pie looks so good but I'm not to crazy about apples. And I really believe that people are taking the gluten thing to far. I believe you should go to your doctor and get the test to see if you are gluten intolerent.
